Reset Windows DNS Cache

BEFORE ATTEMPTING THIS TUTORIAL MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR REGISTRY. IF YOU MESS UP YOU WILL NOT HAVE THE OPTION TO UNDO YOUR CHANGES. ALL EDITS IN THE REGISTRY ARE LIVE.

Alright, I've had troubles viewing the new server so i went to google and did a simple search on how to fix my problem. It wasn't hard but it required a registry hack.

First off open a terminal window by hitting the windows key and R then typing cmd and hit enter.

In this window type "ipconfig /flushdns" and hit enter. This will clear your dns cache but in the future you can have it reset automatically.

To do this hit the windows key and r once more this time type "regedit" into the box and hit enter.

Now, using the tree navigation navigate your way to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ Dnscache\Parameters

Create a new DWORD Value with the name of NegativeCacheTime and the value of 0

It works for me, so I am hoping it will come in handy for you.

How to reset your IP (DSL):
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /renew

Using Cable (Static IP Changing):
ipconfig /release
Unplug modem
ipconfig /flushdns
Wait 10 seconds
Plug it in and wait for all the lights to stop blinking and now check for your new IP! =)

Rofl, the registry hack is awesome. It'll reset your DNS Cache as soon as you type ipconfig /flushdns.

And yes i do know its easier to do that.

.... you do know that it's easier to do:

1. Press Start, then run.
2. Type in CMD.
3. Type in IPCONFIG /flushdns

Done. Nothing to do with the registry, which could majorly kill your system.
